History

The Meladi Block Panchayat encompasses an area of 60 square kilometers in the northwestern part of Kozhikode district, comprising four panchayats: Thikkodi, Thurayur, Meppayur, and Keezhariyur. The divisions within the Meladi Block Panchayat include Pallikkara, Payyoli Angadi, Vilayattur-Manjakkulam, Changaramvalli, Meppayur, Kozhukkallur, Naduvathur, Keezhariyur, Iringath-Purakkad, Thikkodi, and Trikkottur.

Situated between 11°28' and 11°34' North latitude and 75°32' and 11°41' East longitude, the region lies east of the Arabian Sea, south of the Kuttiyadi River, and in the vicinity of Akalapuzha. The presence of the Akalapuzha backwaters, along with numerous streams and wetlands, has endowed the area with a temperate climate.

The Block Office is located on a 107-cent plot of land donated to the government without compensation in 1962 by the late Shri Kuzhikkattu Kannan and Shri Badayankandi Maliyekkal Khaderkutty. The buildings currently seen at the Block Office complex were constructed later, during the implementation of various Five-Year Plans following the inception of the People's Planning Campaign. A two-story building was constructed during the 13th Plan period for the Dairy Development Office, which had previously operated from a rented building. Currently, the Block Office is situated in this new building. The offices of the CDPO, the Industries Development Officer, the Scheduled Castes Development Officer, and the LSGD Assistant Executive Engineer are also located here.
