Melady Block Panchayat
In the local self-government system (Panchayati Raj), the Block Panchayat is an intermediate governing body operating between Grama Panchayats and District Panchayats. Led by an elected President from among the representatives and managed administratively by a Block Development Officer (BDO), this body serves a five-year term. Its primary responsibilities include coordinating development activities across multiple Grama Panchayats under its jurisdiction, ensuring health services through Community Health Centres (CHCs), overseeing the operation of Anganwadis (ICDS) and pre-matric hostels, constructing and maintaining rural roads, and planning as well as implementing various welfare schemes in agriculture, animal husbandry, and poverty alleviation.
